Civil and Structural engineering design for the conversion and extension of an existing Canalside warehouse in Water Street, Birmingham to provide 10 luxury apartments, together with on site private under croft parking. The site is located in Water Street within the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham and occupies a long thin section adjacent to the Birmingham and Falsely Canal.
The architectural design makes best use of the south facing canal elevation by incorporating large balconies to the apartments which will act as outside living space and will bring life and activity to the canal.
Our scope included the structural assessment of the existing warehouse building, design of the lightweight steel framed extension to the roof to create an additional storey of accommodation and the design of the new four storey steel framed extension to the side, together with on-site private parking and drainage.
The foundation solution was piled, due to prevailing ground conditions and the proximity of the canal.
