Civil and Structural engineering design to create new high quality student accommodation on a brownfield site, close to Birmingham University.
The development will provide 57 student bedrooms within two linked blocks, to allow the construction to be completed in two separate phases.
Ground conditions are challenging resulting in a piled foundation solution, to the three storey load bearing masonry structure, which also incorporated a contiguous piled retaining wall to the rear to suit topography and the constraint imposed by an easement to an existing 900mm diameter adopted sewer.
We negotiated a reduced easement and future maintenance strategy with Severn Trent Water, to the existing 900mm diameter adopted sewer, that allowed the development to proceed as planned, rather than STW’s preferred option which would have resulted in reducing the building footprint.
