The proposed conversion, refurbishment and extension of an existing Grade 2 listed industrial building, located within flood zone 3 for mixed use retail / residential use. The building is of four storey construction and was originally constructed in the late 19th century to produce ropes, twines and tarpaulins. It is located adjacent to the river Stour in Kidderminster, with parts of the site within flood zone 3.
Our scope of work included advise and reporting on development options and drainage, given the location of the site, and the production of a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) and SUDS drainage strategy report for the proposed development.
We were also commissioned to complete a full structural survey and assessment of the existing listed building, remedial structural works design and option appraisal/ scheme design for new build elements. The building had been vacant for a number of years and had suffered considerable damage and decay.
We developed suitable sympathetic structural solutions, which were fully supported by the listed building officer, taking due regard of the significance of the building, its condition and practical concerns in terms of buildability and safety of construction techniques.
