Working for Allens Caravans Estates Ltd we completed the structural design of a new £5m seafront leisure centre and clubhouse at one of their sites at Aber Bay, Aberystwyth. The project included the demolition of the existing buildings on site, in a picturesque setting literally a stone’s throw away from the sea.
The Architectural design is striking with the building appearing to disappear into the landscape from a projected bow like façade. The new facility will provide a reception, clubhouse, swimming pool, first floor bar and restaurant with external terracing, together with a further roof terrace bar giving stunning views of the coastline and beachfront.
The site was challenging due to the topography and proximity to the sea, both in terms of the need to incorporate retaining structures into the superstructure design, extreme wind loading and marine exposure. Our design incorporated the free-form swimming pool and children’s splash play area, together with superstructure design and detailing of the galvanised steel frame with a mix of composite concrete floors and engineered timber decks.
The project was fully coordinated with the Architect and extensive mechanical and electrical installations in Revit, including the complex reinforcement to the foundations, swimming pool and retaining walls, ensuring smooth error free construction on site.
