Civil and Structural engineering design for a new three storey teaching wing and single storey sports hall, with associated external works to include new sports pitch, playground and storm and foul drainage at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy in Oldbury.
The project was one of three schools that we completed concurrently with Willmott Dixon for Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. All three projects were completed on time and to budget.
Working with ADP Architects we developed the design in a 3D collaborative way to BIM Level 2.
The site is brownfield with complex ground conditions. We determined that the most appropriate and cost effective solution was to use ground improvement techniques in the form of vibrio stone columns and designed a solution that could be integrated with the ordinal ground remediation and foundations solution.
The building superstructure comprised a structural steel frame with in-situ composite concrete floors to minimize foundation loads and comply with category class 2B in accordance with the Building Regulations.
